Master Cleanse
Warm greetings to all of you that are reading this. The cleanse, it would seem, was a glorious success. It was, however, not without it’s challenges. For those of you intending on trying this cleanse, I would encourage you to do it for at least 10 days. It takes the first 3 days just to get situated to a feeling of not eating food. After 7-8 days, I didn’t feel like I needed, or wanted, any food. Pretty impressive stuff. After 12 days I weighed myself for the first time, and I had lost 12 pounds (roughly 1 pound per day of melting away). By day 16 my weight had stabilized, and the work became much more about deep cleansing than about losing weight. This is where the psychology got tough. When I was losing weight it was easier because I could watch my results, but when I was simply doing it to clean things out and to reset my food cravings, life got a little gritty. In truth, days 18-21 I wouldn’t want to do over again. But, I made it all the way to 21! And now, here’s where I stand. I have lost a total of about 16 pounds from beginning to end, and since I didn’t eat anything for 21 days, my portion sizes for the re-introduction of food have become significantly smaller. I am also craving food that before now I never had much of an affinity for, like celery, and tuna fish. I also seem to have more energy, and my cardiovascular workouts have become more productive than ever. I’ll be running a marathon next month, so I’ll keep you all posted as to how I do. A special thank you to all of those patients that showed me so much support during this time, and for understanding when I seemed “a little quiet” at the regularly scheduled appointment time. I am so glad to have done it, and even more glad that it is over!
